What is the best free flashcard maker?
It depends on what you study, but the one that saves you the most typing for your own material gets you revising sooner. Typing cards by hand is slow, and decks made by other people rarely match your course. An AI flashcard maker that works from your notes, slides and readings gets you to the revision part faster — which is what ParaFree is built for.
It is free, it needs no account, and one click gives you three things at once: flashcards to flip, a quiz to test yourself, and a short list of key points to read before an exam.
What can I make flashcards from?
- Pasted text — notes, a chapter, an article or a transcript.
- Files — PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) or .txt, read in your browser. Desktop Chrome and Edge take documents up to 2 GB; other browsers up to 500 MB.
- YouTube — paste the video’s transcript (YouTube: ⋯ → Show transcript).
- Audio or video — a lecture recording up to 50 MB and 60 minutes, transcribed by AI.
Scanned PDFs have no text to read; run them through PDF to Word with OCR first and upload the Word file.
How many flashcards does it make?
Pick a size before you start. Quick gives a short set of key points, a few cards and a five-question quiz. Standard suits a lecture or a chapter: about ten key points, a dozen flashcards and an eight-question quiz. Exam prep makes the most — about fifteen flashcards and twelve quiz questions — for revising a whole topic.
Is my material stored?
Files are read in your browser, and long texts are cut down to their most central sentences (TextRank) before anything is sent, so the AI gets at most about 4,000 words. That text goes to an AI provider to write your pack and is not saved by ParaFree. The AI is told to use only what is in your material, but it can still make mistakes — check anything important against your notes or textbook.
How do I make flashcards with AI for free?
- Add your material. Paste notes into the box, or click Upload File and choose a PDF, Word, PowerPoint or .txt file.
- Choose a size. Quick, Standard or Exam prep — more cards and questions for bigger topics.
- Make the pack. Click “Make flashcards, a quiz & notes”. The AI writes all three in one go.
- Revise. Flip through the cards, take the quiz (each answer is explained), then copy everything or download it as a .txt file.
Frequently asked questions
Is the ParaFree flashcard maker free?
Yes. It is free with no signup and no account. Recordings and the experimental YouTube option have a daily allowance per person; text and files do not.
Can it make flashcards from a PDF?
Yes. Upload the PDF and the text is read in your browser. For a scanned PDF, use PDF to Word with OCR first.
Does it also make a quiz?
Yes. Every pack has flashcards, a multiple-choice quiz with an explanation for each answer, and key-point notes.
Can I save my flashcards?
Yes. Copy all of it, or download it as a .txt file you can keep, print or paste into another study app.
Are the flashcards always correct?
Not always. The AI is told to use only your material, but it can make mistakes, so check anything important against your notes or textbook.
