Why look for a Smallpdf alternative?

Some people want a tool that does not upload their documents; some want no account; some just want a second option. This page describes only what ParaFree’s PDF tools do, so you can compare for yourself — check each service’s own site for its current features and plans.

Are my files uploaded?

No. ParaFree’s PDF tools run in your browser: the file is read and processed on your device and the result is saved from there. That is useful for CVs, ID scans, contracts and coursework you would rather not send anywhere.

Which PDF tools are there?

How large can files be?

On desktop Chrome or Edge, Merge and Light compression take files up to 2 GB (Merge up to 4 GB per task) and the result can be saved straight to disk; Strong compression, PDF to JPG and JPG to PDF take up to 1 GB. Other browsers take up to 500 MB. PDF to Word handles up to 50 pages at a time.

How do I get a PDF under an upload limit?

Portals for universities, scholarships and job applications often cap uploads at 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB. Open Compress PDF, choose Target size and the limit you need: it tries Light compression first so the text stays selectable, and only turns pages into images if it has to. If a target cannot be reached, it says so and offers the smallest version it made.

How do I hand in photos of handwritten work as one PDF?

Use JPG to PDF for assignments: add the photos in page order, keep A4 portrait with small margins, and download one PDF. Photos taken sideways are turned upright automatically. If the result is too big for the portal, run it through Compress PDF afterwards, and use Merge PDF to put a cover sheet in front.

How to use the PDF tools

  1. Open a tool. Pick one on the PDF tools page.
  2. Choose your file. It is read in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
  3. Get the result. Download it, or for big files in Chrome or Edge, save it straight to disk.
